Social Work Personal Statement

This essay sample would be interesting for those who need to write the social work personal essay

I first realized I wanted to become a social worker in 2010. I was sitting on my porch, watching my elderly neighbor mow the lawn. He looked so pale, so fatigued, so worn out. I went up to him and asked, “Could I give you a helping hand, Sir?” I can still remember the look in his eyes. He was astonished by my words. “Of course,” he answered, suddenly looking happier and less exhausted.

We starting mowing the lawn together. It was the best feeling of my life. I was finally helpful in this world. I could finally make a change. I had a role to fulfill, a mission to complete, a path to follow. And I was simply mowing the lawn. That’s when I decided: social work I’m coming!

I am applying to be a social worker with my sincerest intentions. I serve the community, and the community serves me. It’s as simple as that. There is no better way to explain it. If you don’t offer, how shall you receive?

Lately, I’ve noticed a large number of self-absorbed people in this world; and what’s worse is that they can’t even tell. They think that’s perfectly normal. Well, I don’t want to be normal. I want to change this world! And there’s no better way to start than here, applying to work for my people (which is, all the people in the world, united).

The road leading to this moment was challenging but worth it. I’ve learned so much, and developed tremendously. I believe that I am qualified to start a new career. I’ve been working as a teacher in a special school for two years now. My experience has taught me to manage pressure, even in challenging instances. I can now handle stressful situations with great calm and ease.

My experiences have also polished my communication qualities. I can emphasize, feel, love, help. I dealt with angry moms and happy dads - and vice versa. I learned that problems are not impossible to overcome, and interacting with people is genuinely entertaining.

My organizational skills have also developed. Working with special children taught me how to be prepared for any situation, at any minute.

In my last two years, I realized how necessary goal setting is. Without a purpose, there’s almost nothing you can accomplish. 2017 was a test year - I set 5 goals, motivated myself, and decided to fulfill them all. I added another list of new goals (three in total) to the basic one, which I should’ve completed only if I felt it necessary. I can proudly say I finished more than eight life-changing goals last year, and it feels fantastic. The next step in my life is making a positive impact in other people’s lives. As I mentioned previously, I want to change the world, and help people in any way that I can. I know that social work is calling me....so I must go.
